The NASEO Geothermal Heating and Cooling Working Group brings together State Energy Offices and private sector experts to lower the cost of heating and cooling buildings using geothermal low temperature and coproduced resources. The Working Group will focus on key market challenges such as streamlining state and local permitting and regulations, training the workforce and coordinating on skills accreditation, demonstrating technology innovations, financing, and strengthening industry partnerships and investment.
The Working Group’s technology and market areas include the full range of geothermal heating and cooling, such as ground source heat pumps, geothermal district systems, and other related technologies. Use cases include residential, commercial, and public buildings, as well as high-priority large loads such as data centers. States will learn from each other, industry practitioners, and experts about the technologies, programs, policies, business models, research, and innovative financing that can scale geothermal heating and cooling. The goals are to lower heating and cooling costs, reduce stress on the electric grid, and contribute to economic growth.
